Thoughts … On why you should care about getting publicity: It separates you from your competition. It raises your perceived level of competence, cache and desirability. People are willing to pay you more money – the perception is that you’re worth it, and you go from being a commodity to being an expert. It separates you from your competition. Calls or orders will start coming in from everywhere, not just your market. It creates more word of mouth, more buzz. It helps you get past gatekeepers – all of a sudden, you’re famous! It multiplies – before you know it, you’re being requested to speak, comment and serve as a credible authority. It increases the impact of your advertising, which may soon read: “As seen on Good Morning, America.”

We don’t get many calls from Las Vegas, so when this one came in, it really caught our attention. It was a real estate development company opening an apartment community near UNCC. They needed help with their opening celebration. It sounded like fun and something we could handle with ease. Oh, and the event was just two weeks away!

Not our preferred way to work by any stretch, but we knew we could pull it off.

Belle Haven is a LEED Silver Designed eco-friendly apartment complex of 176 units. The emphasis is on living the green life, with a combination of a high-end lifestyle with environmental sensibility.

Our first charge was to design the run of show and then source relevant and appropriate dignitaries to attend and speak. And a lofty crew we proudly assembled to address a full house:

Joel Ford, NC State Senator

Trevor Fuller Chairman, Charlotte Mecklenburg County Commission
George Dunlap, Charlotte Mecklenburg County Commission

Greg Phipps, Charlotte City Council

Emily Scofield, Executive Director, US Green Building Council NC

We also handled the media outreach pre and post as well as the onsite coverage.

“Marcia provided Public Relations expertise and consulting for a Grand Opening event that my company recently held. She provided excellent and reliable sources as speakers and guided us to great success in our event. The main thing to mention is that she did all of this within a two-week timeframe (due to our lateness in reaching out to her). Marcia brings with her an impeccable knowledge of public relations and is highly connected to notable people in the marketplace. We would have been lost without her.”
